Kindergarten children come to school with a sense of wonder and a desire to learn. The Word of God kindergarten program carefully nourishes these qualities in a safe atmosphere designed to foster and promote our students’ cognitive, social, emotional and spiritual growth. Each child is encouraged to develop a positive self image and an appreciation of the personal worth of every individual.

At Word of God, communication and readiness skills are fostered, as children are encouraged to express their ideas verbally and in picture form. Story telling, poetry and dramatic play allow children to stretch their imaginations and to share their thoughts with the whole group. Special emphasis is given to developing phonetic and rhyming skills, story recall and sequencing.

Math skills are acquired by children through hands-on activities, games and manipulatives. Children learn number recognition, counting skills, time and sequencing as well as patterns, geometric shapes and addition readiness.

Social studies are important as children learn to modify their behavior to a large group (taking turns, sharing and leadership). The children also learn about community helpers, fire prevention and safety.

Our science activities permit the children to experience the world through their senses and to observe and discover mysteries about plants, animals, weather and the seasons.

Art activities channel the child’s creative energies through painting, drawing, sewing and clay activities. Music is provided both in the kindergarten classroom and in an upper school music class that fosters rhythm, movement and song. Physical education is provided once a week in the gym.

There are also computers in both classrooms with hands-on activities and instruction.
